Estimating that more than 13 million children aged 6-17 were victims of cyber bullying, the poll also reaveled that more than 2 million of those victims never told anyone.  |  Cyberbullying is when technology is used to directly target some one. Cyberbullying, although not in person, can still be just as harmful and cause the same effects and outcomes. It's hurtful, and just as bad as physical or verbal bullying. In fact, it's very similar to verbal bullying, and sometimes falls under the same category.  One-third of all teens (Ages 12-17) and one-sixth of children (ages 6-11) have had mean, threatening, or embarrassing things said about them online. 10% of the teens and 4% of the younger children were threatened online with physical harm. 16% of the teens and preteens who were victims told no one about it. About half of children ages 6-11 told their parents. Only 30% of older kids told their parents. Preteens were as likely to recieve harmful messages at school (45%) as at home (44%) Older children received 30% of harmful messages at school and 70% at home. 17% of preteens and 7% of teens said they were worried about bullying as they start a new school year. 8% of those effected by cyber bullying try to commit suicide. |
